It was with great sadness that the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie announced the death of Sister Josephine Kowalski (Sister M. St. Gregory) on Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, North Bay, Ontario.
Sister Josephine was born in Thunder Bay (Fort William), Ontario, February 15, 1925, and she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie, on September 8, 1949. Sister will be remembered for her faith, courage, simplicity and fidelity.
An oft-seen image of Sister Josephine was of a woman wrapped in a shawl holding her rosary in her hand. Josephine captured your heart with her gracious smile and a twinkle in her eye. Sister was a member of the Elks Klown Band and the Fort William Girls' Military Band and a faithful helper on the Elf Team for Habitat for Humanity in Thunder Bay. She brought joy when playing the clarinet and singing a well-known Fort William jingle 'Murphy's Coal'. Sister Josephine knew how to embrace and transcend suffering bringing her to a place of freedom and peace.
The Sisters of St. Joseph are offering a Sabbatical Program which can be designed according to your needs.
